TikTok accuses Facebook of ‘plagiarism, smears’
TikTok owner ByteDance Ltd. on Monday accused Facebook of “plagiarism and smears” as the video platform faces a potential ban from the United States.
“ByteDance has always been committed to becoming a global company. During this process, we have faced all kinds of complex and unimaginable difficulties, including the tense international political environment, collision and conflict of different cultures and plagiarism and smears from competitor Facebook,” the firm’s statement read, but did not elaborate further on the issue.
TikTok Chief Executive Officer Kevin Mayer previously slammed Facebook for its “malign attacks” and labeled Instagram’s new feature Reels as “another copycat product.” Prior to that, it was reported Instagram is attempting to make creators switch from TikTok to its rival platform Reels, after which ByteDance announced it will give over $2 billion to its content producers.
