Nikkei surges over 2% after manufacturing data
Asian markets traded mixed later during Monday’s session following the release of manufacturing data for China and Japan. China’s manufacturing activity expanded in July, while Japan saw its slowest contraction in five months in the sector. Tensions between China and the United States continued to be watched closely by investors.
In Japan, the benchmark Nikkei 225 surged 2.05% at 7:05 am CET. At the same time, South Korea’s Kospi Composite was flat. In mainland China, the Shanghai Composite climbed 1.37% while the Shenzhen Composite gained 1.90% at 7:30 am CET. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng was 0.79% lower at the time. Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 declined 0.16% in Sydney.
The dollar was flat lower against the yen, buying ¥105.854 at 7:36 am CET.
