US issues guidance to protect investors from China
United States Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin (pictured) announced the President’s Working Group on Financial Markets (PWG), which he chairs, had released a report offering five recommendations for American investors who own stocks in US-listed Chinese firms.
The move follows President Donald Trump’s memo, signed June 4, calling for recommendations to be made in order to circumvent the “significant” risks posed by the government in Beijing.
“The recommendations outlined in the report will increase investor protection and level the playing field for all companies listed on US exchanges,” Mnuchin wrote. “The United States is the premier jurisdiction in the world for raising capital, and we will not compromise on the core principles that underpin investor confidence in our capital markets,” he added.
