Russian COVID vaccine protection to last at least 2 years – scientist
The Russian vaccine against the coronavirus will protect those who receive it from infection for at least two years, Director of the Gamaleya National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology of the Russian Healthcare Ministry Alexander Gintsburg said on Thursday.
“Effective period of the vaccine, its protective properties will last not during a short term, half a year – one year but for at least two years,” Gintsburg stated.
Earlier this week, Russia became the first country in the world to register a COVID-19 vaccine and noted it will first be given to medical workers on a voluntary basis. The United States and Germany expressed doubts over the safety and efficacy of the vaccine, but Moscow insisted the criticism is unfounded and came due to their “fear of competition.”
