DoJ watchdog looking into Roger Stone sentencing – report

United States Justice Department’s Office of the Inspector General opened an investigation into the sentencing of Roger Stone, NBC reported on Monday. The inquiry was allegedly triggered by the statement issued by one of the prosecutors on the case, who claimed there was pressure from the DoJ to cut the original sentence recommendation of seven to nine years.

Stone, a former adviser to US President Donald Trump, was sentenced to 40 months in prison in February. All four prosecutors working on the case resigned and called for an investigation. Stone was subsequently commuted by Trump in a widely criticized move.
