Twitter updates election-related policy – TeleTrader.com
Twitter Inc. revealed on Friday a new set of measures that the company said will help prevent manipulation or interference in “elections or other civic processes.”
From next week, users who attempt to retweet posts “with a misleading information label” will be offered to be redirected to “credible information about the topic before they are able to amplify it,” although flagged tweets are already “de-amplified” via Twitter’s recommendation systems. Those tweets will also be marked with additional warnings and restrictions before users are able to open and view the posts, which will also not be “algorithmically” included in the “recommended” section.
Furthermore, the company said that it “will encourage people to add their own commentary prior to amplifying content by prompting them to Quote Tweet instead of Retweet” and restrict “liked by” and “followed by” recommendations from non-followed users. “Finally, we will only surface Trends in the ‘For You’ tab in the United States that include additional context,” Twitter concluded.
