US opens higher on election results expectations
Major stock indexes in the United States started Wednesday’s trading session higher as investors are still awaiting the election winner. United States President Donald Trump claimed that he won the 2020 presidential election and stated he will reach out to the Supreme Court of the US to ensure that voting was done in accordance with the regulations. Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden’s legal team answered they are “ready for Trump’s SCOTUS threat. On the data front, the US trade deficit went down to $63.9 billion in September while the US private payrolls went up by 365,000 in October.
The Dow Jones jumped 0.75% or 205 points at the opening as UnitedHealth Group Inc. jumped by 6.97%. The Nasdaq 100 went up by 3.14% with IDEXX Laboratories growing by 8.23% a minute later. The S&P 500 rose by 1.54%. Catalent Inc. was the best performer increasing by 4.66%.
The euro traded 0.06% lower to sell for $1.16954 at 9:28 am ET.
