Portugal hits new record in daily virus cases, fatalities
The number of cases of coronavirus registered daily in Portugal reached a new record-high of 7,497 on Wednesday, taking the total tally of infections in the country to 156,940.
The figure of disease-related deaths recorded in the period of 24 hours also surpassed its previous record as 56 new fatalities were reported since the previous update. Portugal now counts 2,694 fatal cases from the effects of COVID-19.
The official statistics showed the number of hospital beds taken decreased by 12 to 2,337. On the other hand, the figures for patients taken to intensive care increased by 5 to 325. It also revealed a total of 88,946 have recovered from coronavirus since its outbreak in Portugal.
