Google tests end-to-end encryption messages
Alphabet Inc.’s Google LLC announced on Thursday the introduction of end-to-end encryption beta testers for Android text messages. Initially, the testers will be launched until the end of November, while the trials will continue in 2021.
According to the official post, “no one, including Google and third parties, can read the content of messages,” following users’ privacy and personal data compliance rules.
Apart from the end-to-end encryption beta, Google announced new chat features in the upgraded SMS text messages, based on the open Rich Communication Services (RCS) standards. With these changes, the users can send and receive better quality photos and videos, chat over Wi-Fi or data connection, receive information when a message is read, share reactions, and participate in group chats.
