US sanctions two North Korea-linked companies
United States Treasury Department announced sanctions against two entities linked to North Korea on Thursday. Russian construction company Mokran LLC, and Korea Cholsan General Trading Corporation, a North Korean firm operating in Russia, have even accused by Washington of “exportation of forced labor” from the Asian country, with one of their goals being generating “revenue for the Government of North Korea or Workers’ Party of Korea.”
Furthermore, Korea Rungrado General Trading Corporation, Korea General Corporation for External Construction, and Yanbian Silverstar Network Technology Co. Ltd. have been added to the US department’s Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Person List (SDN List) due to the same alleged wrongdoing by sending North Korean workers to Russia and China.
“North Korea has a long history of exploiting its citizens by sending them to distant countries to work in grueling conditions in order to financially support Pyongyang and its weapons programs. Those countries still hosting North Korean workers must send these workers home,” US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said in a statement.
