Japan announces new ‘green growth strategy’
The Japanese government on Friday said that it is planning to eliminate gasoline-powered vehicles by 2035 as a part of its new “green growth strategy.”
The plan’s aim is to fulfill Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga’s (pictured) pledge to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. To achieve this goal, the government will offer tax incentives and other financial support to businesses.
The annual economic impact of the new measures could reach ¥90 trillion yen in 2030, and ¥190 trillion yen ($1.8 billion) in 2050.
