Pompeo: CCP, its lackeys destroyed HK rule of law
United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo chided on Thursday the sentence which the Shenzhen court imposed on the ten Hong Kongers who were arrested during an attempt to flee the city to get to Taiwan, asserting that the Chinese Communist Party and “its local lackeys destroyed [Hong Kong’s] rule of law and eviscerated the … people’s freedoms.”
Pompeo issued a statement, criticizing the court’s ruling and urging the Chinese authorities to “immediately and unconditionally release” the group, whose sentences vary from 7-month-long imprisonment up to 3 years in jail.
“A regime that prevents its own people from leaving can lay no claim to greatness or global leadership. It is simply a fragile dictatorship, afraid of its own people,” he concluded.
