Pence tells Pelosi he will not invoke 25th Amendment
United States Vice President Mike Pence in a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said he does not believe invoking the 25th Amendment of the US Constitution to remove President Donald Trump from office is in the best interest of the nation.
The effort against the president was taken after he allegedly incited his supporters to storm the Capitol building last week while Congress was in session. “Invoking the 25th Amendment in such a manner would set a terrible precedent,” Pence explained, noting that it was in the first place designed to address incapacity or disability and not to serve as punishment.
“I urge you and every member of Congress to avoid actions that would further divide and inflame the passion of the moment,” Pence added, reminding the Speaker that Trump’s term in office is set to run out in just eight days after which President-elect Joe Biden will take over.
