Starmer: Its difficult to be opposition in pandemic
United Kingdom’s Labour Leader Keir Starmer said in an interview published on Saturday that it is “difficult” to be the leader of the opposition during a pandemic and stressed he is yet to address a room full of people as Labour leader.
“In a pandemic most people understandably want the government to succeed in the health restrictions because that affects them,” Starmer told the Times. He also noted that Labour has been trying to be a “constructive opposition” during the pandemic so it would back the government when necessary but also challenge it when needed.
Starmer went on to predict that the outcome of the pandemic will be similar to that in 1945 when after the hardships of World War Two, Clement Attlee’s Labour came into power.
