Sarkozy found guilty in corruption trial
Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy was found guilty of corruption and influence-peddling in a trial that ended on Monday.
Sarkozy was charged in the so-called “wiretapping affair” for attempting to obtain confidential information from judge Gilbert Azibert in exchange for favors.
Sarkozy, Azibert and Sarkozy’s lawyer Thierry Herzog were all sentenced to three years in prison, two of which are suspended. Furthermore, Herzog received a five-year ban on practicing law.
