China to comprehensively implement ‘one country, two systems’ – Li
Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China Li Keqiang underlined on Friday that the country will be looking to “comprehensively and accurately implement the ‘one country, two systems'” principle in two of its special administrative regions – Hong Kong and Macau.
China will be implementing “the laws and enforcement mechanisms for the two regions to safeguard national security” and will “guard against and deter external forces’ interference in the affairs” of Hong Kong and Macau, he noted. Beijing will “support” the two regions “as they grow their economies and improve people’s lives so as to maintain long-term prosperity,” Li explained.
As for Taiwan, China will stay “committed” to maintaining the “one China” principle and to “promoting the peaceful growth of relations across the Taiwan Strait and China’s reunification,” Li stressed, adding that Beijing will “resolutely deter any separatist activity seeking Taiwan independence.”
