Spahn: Not enough vaccines to stop virus in Europe
Germany’s Health Minister Jens Spahn said on Friday that there aren’t sufficient vaccine doses to stop a third wave of the coronavirus pandemic in Europe. Spahn also said there is a possibility of Germany signing a vaccine contract with Russia for its Sputnik V shot given the current lack of vaccines.
As countries around the globe scramble to vaccinate their citizens as quickly as possible, the European Commission decided to implement a new export regime for COVID-19 vaccines, which resulted in Italy blocking a shipment of 250,000 Oxford/AstraZeneca jabs to Australia earlier this month.
Meanwhile, French Prime Minister Jean Castex warned that the country is going through “what looks like a… third wave” of the COVID-19 health crisis.
