Epic Games submits complaint against Apple in UK
Epic Games Inc. has filed an antitrust complaint to the United Kingdom Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) against Apple Inc. on Tuesday.
The complaint alleges “monopolistic” and anti-competitive behavior by Apple when it comes to acquiring and distributing apps for their products. It states that the restrictive rules are a violation of UK law. Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney added, “these harmful practices lead to artificially inflated costs for consumers, and stifle innovation among developers, many of whom are unable to compete in a digital ecosystem that is rigged against them.”
Apple rebuffed the complaint saying “we have seen them [Epic Games] use the same playbook around the world.” The CMA launched the antitrust probe into Apple’s practices earlier this month.
