WH: Our goal ‘complete denuclearization’ of N. Korea
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki stated on Friday that the goal of the United States continues to be a “complete denuclearization” of the Korean peninsula.
Commenting on the issue during a press gaggle, Psaki noted that the North Korea policy review has been completed and that it has been “thorough, rigorous, and inclusive,” with officials from previous administrations and outside experts being consulted. She also added that the administration’s policy won’t “focus on achieving a grand bargain” nor will it “rely on strategic patience,” saying that they will have a “calibrated practical approach” with the aim of finding diplomatic paths with North Korea on ensuring the security of the US.
Earlier this week, the US, alongside South Korea, stated they are ready to deter North Korean military threats, with US President Joe Biden set to meet his South Korean counterpart on May 21.
