Biden: US to donate 500M Pfizer vaccine doses
United States President Joe Biden (pictured) unveiled on Thursday that the US will purchase 500 million doses of a COVID-19 vaccine developed by Pfizer/BioNTech and disperse them to lower-income countries worldwide.
Delivering remarks during his visit to the United Kingdom, Biden explained that the US will donate 80 million doses from its own stockpiles by the end of June, and purchase an additional half a billion, which will be shipped starting August.
Biden underlined that the vaccines come with “no strings attached,” describing the US as the “world’s arsenal” in the fight against COVID. He went on to urge caution, stressing that the pandemic hasn’t yet ended.
