Austin: Direct line with China needed in case of crisis
The United States needs a direct line of communication with China in case of an event that could cause a crisis, the country’s Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin (pictured) stated on Thursday.
“I’m concerned about something that could happen that could spark a crisis and I think we need the ability to be able to talk with both our allies and partners but also our adversaries or potential adversaries,” the secretary said, adding that “there needs to be a direct line of communication between the military and also between government officials as well.”
Earlier today, a spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry asserted that Washington is using the “China challenge” as justification to increase its military spending.
