Report: Frost, Sefcovic to meet, talk NI this week
British Chief Negotiator of Task Force Europe David Frost and his counterpart at the European Commission Maros Sefcovic will meet virtually this week to try to reach a breakthrough in London and Brussels’s dispute over the post-Brexit status of Northern Ireland, The Guardian reported on Monday.
The news comes shortly after French State Secretary for European Affairs Clement Beaune threatened United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson to “respect his signature” on the Brexit Withdrawal Agreement and hinted at a possibility of retaliatory measures against Britain over the matter.
Earlier, France’s President Emmanuel Macron stated that the EU should not have to deal with the British government’s approach to Brexit, characterized by “certain incoherences that people were well aware of at the beginning.” On the other hand, Irish Prime Minister Micheal Martin noted the willingness to resolve the issue on both sides.
