If no new variants emerge, lockdown will end in July – Johnson
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson (pictured) stated on Monday that July 19 is planned to be the final day of the COVID-19 containment measures in the United Kingdom, provided that no new virus strains appear by then.
Speaking at a press conference, Johnson noted that, while no ironclad guarantees can be given due to the unpredictability of the virus, he feels “confident” that July 19 will be “the terminus date” regarding the pandemic lockdown in the UK.
Johnson previously unveiled that the virus containment measures will remain in place for four more weeks, mostly due to the spread of the Delta coronavirus strain.
