Eurozone retail sales jump 9% in May
The seasonally adjusted volume of retail trade in the Eurozone rose 9% on the year in May, the statistical office of the European Union reported on Tuesday. Compared to April of this year, retail sales in the euro area climbed 4.6%.
Sales of non-food products jumped 8.8% in the Eurozone during the same month, while the report from Eurostat noted that sales of food, drinks and tobacco declined 0.2% month-on-month.
The highest monthly increases in total retail trade were observed in France (+9.9%) and the Netherlands (+9.3%), according to the data.
