Biden taps LA mayor for ambassador to India
United States President Joe Biden picked Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti (pictured) for the role of the US ambassador to India in the latest round of announcements of diplomatic nominees. The Senate is yet to confirm his candidacy.
Garcetti served on Biden’s vice-presidential selection committee, he’s also been the LA mayor since 2013 and oversees one of the busiest container ports and airports in the world. Additionally, he led more than 400 US mayors to adopt the Paris Climate agreement and conducted social fieldwork in Southeast Asia and Northeast Africa.
Among other diplomatic announcements, Denise Bauer was nominated for the ambassador to France and Monaco, Peter Haas to Bangladesh and Bernadette Meehan the Republic of Chile.
