Sturgeon: PM won’t meet me to discuss reopening
Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon stated on Wednesday she finds it “strange” that British head of government Boris Johnson will not meet her to discuss the recovery from the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic during his visit to the northern region “despite our political differences.”
“I don’t feel snubbed. […] I think people will just find that strange, and it’s for Boris Johnson to explain, I suppose, why,” Sturgeon said. “I stand ready to work with whoever, however I can to get Scotland through COVID and into recovery.”
Those political differences refer mostly to Sturgeon and Johnson’s contrasting attitudes on the matter of Scotland’s independence. Most recently, British Cabinet Office Minister Michael Gove said it is highly unlikely the prime minister will allow another referendum to take place before the country’s general elections in 2024.
