NATO aims to help Afghan gov’t ‘as much as possible’
NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg (pictured) stated on Friday that the alliance will be looking to support Afghanistan’s government and its security forces “as much as possible.”
NATO is “deeply concerned” about “attacks on civilians, targeted killings,” and other reported human rights violations the Taliban forces have been committing during their advance on several Afghan provincial capitals, he also noted.
“The Taliban need to understand that they will not be recognised by the international community if they take the country by force. We remain committed to supporting a political solution to the conflict,” Stoltenberg said in a statement.
