US opens higher with coronavirus in focus
United States stock markets started the last trading session of the week slightly above the flatline as concerns regarding the renewed surge in COVID-19 infections dampened investors’ appetites for risk. Washington extended restrictions on “non-essential” travel with Canada and Mexico. In business, Adobe agreed to acquire Frame.io for $1.28 billion.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 were flat at the opening bell, only to rise soon after. Microsoft Corp. was the best performer on the first index, growing 1.21%, while Illumina Inc. advanced 3.22% on the second. The Nasdaq 100 gained 0.27%, with Pinduoduo Inc. climbing 4.81%.
The euro was unchanged against the dollar at 9:29 am ET, selling for $1.16812.
