House committee blocks private funding for army deployment
United States House of Representatives Armed Services Committee voted to bar federal states from using private funding to pay for cross-state National Guard deployments.
The proposal, led by Representative Veronica Escobar, would still allow for said funding to pay for army deployments in case of emergency or disaster.
“I don’t believe that our National Guard should be up for auction or up for sale,” said Escobar. “We don’t know if any of those sources are foreign government sources that are being funneled through private entities.”
