EU proposes USB-C charger for all devices
The European Commission announced on Thursday a proposal to make USB-C the “standard port for all smartphones, tablets, cameras, headphones, portable speakers and handheld videogame consoles.”
The move was described as an “important step against e-waste and consumer inconvenience.” The Commission also proposed to unbundle chargers from device sales in order to further eliminate waste resulting from their production and disposal.
Thierry Breton, European Commissioner for the Internal Market, said that “with our proposal, European consumers will be able to use a single charger for all their portable electronics – an important step to increase convenience and reduce waste.”
