Delta more disrupting than first thought – Fed’s Brainard
The spread of the COVID-19 Delta variant has been more disruptive than expected to the economic recovery in the United States, Member of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors Lael Brainard (pictured) noted on Monday.
Delivering remarks at the National Association for Business Economics in Arlington, Virginia, she pointed out that the virus “continues to pose downside risks to the outlook.”
Brainard also assessed that the employment in the country is “still a bit short” of the mark needed for the tapering of the central bank’s asset purchases to start.
