Kishida officially named Japan’s new PM
Fumio Kishida became on Monday Japan’s new prime minister, the 100th one, after being officially elected by the country’s National Diet.
He is expected to name his new cabinet and be formally inaugurated at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo later in the day. “This is the real starting point. I will go forth with a strong sense of determination, with a strong resolution,” he stated at the Liberal Democratic Party’s (LDP) headquarters in the morning.
Kishida was elected to succeed Yoshihide Suga as the LDP’s leader and Japan’s likely prime minister on September 29. In the meantime, it was reported he is planning to resolve the House of Parliament and set October 31 as the date for the new general election.
