Michel congratulates Japan’s new PM Kishida

European Council President Charles Michel extended on Monday “warm congratulations” to Fumio Kishida on formally becoming Japan’s new prime minister.

“We know you as a friend of the EU,” Michel tweeted. “I look forward to working with you to take forward the EU–Japan strategic partnership and deepen cooperation in the Indo-Pacific.”

Earlier in the day, Japan’s National Diet officially confirmed Kishida as the country’s new, 100th head of government.
