Sunak: UK’s recovery comes with a cost
British Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak admitted on Monday the United Kingdom’s recovery from the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic “comes with a cost” as the country’s debt has reached almost 100% of its gross domestic product (GDP) but stressed it was necessary to put public finances “back on a sustainable footing.”
Speaking at the Conservative Party’s conference, Sunak also emphasized the UK’s economy is among the fastest-growing ones in the world and dismissed experts’ earlier predictions on the matter. “Now is the time to show them that our plan will deliver, and now is the time to at last, at long last, to finally turn to the future,” he concluded.
Earlier in the day, Sunak remarked the rising inflation has not yet influenced wages in Britain.
