Russia’s COVID deaths in Sept. double govt estimate
Russia registered nearly double the number of coronavirus-related deaths in September compared to the Health Ministry’s daily-updated data, according to data published by the Federal State Statistics Service on Friday.
While the government’s data showed roughly 24,000 people died after contracting COVID-19 last month, the newest statistics estimate that number at more than 44,000.
The coronavirus was the leading cause of death in 34,403 people, while it was assumed as the main cause of death in another 5,235 cases. Finally, in 970 people the virus caused severe complications which led to death, while the report, cited by RIA News, said that the coronavirus wasn’t the main cause of death but still present in 3,657 cases.
