US opens lower with focus on data, earnings
Major stock markets in the United States opened lower on Friday, as investors digested the lastest economic data and quarterly earnings reports. Yesterday, Apple, Amazon, Starbucks, and Gilead reported yearly increases in their quarterly revenues, while Colgate, Exxon, and Chevron unveiled theirs today. Meanwhile, personal spending rose in September, while consumer sentiment will be unveiled after the bell rings.
The Dow Jones started 0.24% in the red, as Apple decreased 3.85%. The Nasdaq 100 was down by 0.82% at the opening bell, with Starbucks falling 7.21%. The S&P 500 began 0.55% lower, as Western Digital plummeted 12.26%.
The euro lost 0.41% to the dollar trading for $1.16329 at 9:32 am ET.
