Europe opens flat amid COVID worries
European markets opened flat on Friday amid concerns about the COVID situation on the continent. The World Health Organization (WHO) warned Europe could see another 500,000 coronavirus deaths by February if the current trajectory continues. Elsewhere, investors digested industrial production figures from Germany and UK house prices data.
The FTSE 100 lost 0.08% at 9:00 am CET and the DAX was down 0.07% at 9:01 am CET. The CAC 40 was flat at 9:00 am CET.
The euro was up 0.06% against the dollar to go for 1.15618 at 8:59 am CET and the pound traded flat compared to the US currency to sell for 1.35035 at 9:00 am CET.
