Reports of US consulate reopening are ‘speculative’ – China FM
Reports that suggest China and the United States might soon reopen their respective consulates in Houston and Chengdu are “speculative,” China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin (pictured) noted during a press conference on Friday.
Wang went on to accuse the US of damaging the ties between the two countries, and urge Washington to “correct its mistakes” in order to bring the relations “to the right track.”
In July 2020, the US closed China’s consulate over alleged espionage activities, while Beijing reciprocated, attributing the move to Washington’s desire to interfere in the Asian country’s internal affairs.
