Russia: Olympics boycott against sportsmanship
Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova described on Thursday the United States’ diplomatic boycott of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing as an attempt to “dominate the world sports arena” that will lead to “the collapse of the established sports system.”
Zakharova told Soloviev Live that Washington wants to “dominate completely on their own rules,” which it is trying to rewrite them ” based on their ideological guidelines.” She added the US is not even hiding its interests in the matter.
The US, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada have so far confirmed they will not have diplomatic representation at the Winter Olympics in Beijing in protest against what they described as multiple cases of violation of human rights in China. Lithuania is reportedly considering doing the same.
