S. Korea won’t boycott Beijing Olympics – Moon
South Korean President Moon Jae-in said that Seoul will steer away from censuring China by orchestrating a diplomatic boycott of the upcoming Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics. He added that no nation had asked the country to consider a boycott.
The news comes after some South Koren allies, including the United Kingdom and the United States, have announced they will boycott the Games over China’s mistreatment of the Uyghur minority living in the country’s Xinjiang region.
Moon’s comments were made in a joint press conference with Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, after the two officially inked $1 billion defense deal. In the media address, the leaders also confirmed that Seoul and Canaberra will open up a quarantine-free travel bubble starting Wedensday.
