Le Maire: Rise in energy prices absolute emergency
French Economy and Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire stated on Friday that the country’s government is trying to find a solution to the most recent surges in the prices of energy and protect the public from a further economic crisis.
“If we do not find a solution in the coming days, French people will see an increase between 35% and 40% in electricity bills,” he remarked at a press conference. “It is an absolute emergency because the explosion in electricity prices is neither sustainable for households nor for businesses.”
Back in September, France froze the prices of gas until March 2022 to avoid further surges. Later, the country’s Prime Minister Jean Castex said the costs of that commodity will decrease more slowly than initially expected.
