US may propose cutting troops in Eastern Europe – report
The United States is considering offering Russia to reduce the number of its troops deployed in Eastern Europe in order for Moscow to do the same, NBC reported on Friday citing a current administration official and two former US national security officials familiar with the matter.
According to one of the sources, the US is still unsure if Russia is serious about upcoming security talks but Washington “is compiling a list of options for force posture changes in Europe to discuss with Russia at the talks.” The official noted the US will be prepared to discuss specific moves in case Russia shows a willingness to discuss scaling back its troops in the region.
Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken told his Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba that the US and Russia will hold “no conversations about Ukraine without Ukraine.”
