Japan’s inflation rises to 0.8% in December

Consumer prices in Japan stood in line with analysts’ projections in December with the headline index rising by 0.8% on a yearly basis to stand at 100.0, according to a report released by the Statistics Bureau of Japan on Friday.

The CPI excluding fresh food and energy went down by 0.3% year-on-year, but remained unmoved month-on-month, while the same index excluding only fresh food added 0.5% on a yearly and 0.1% on a monthly basis.

The index for goods increased by 3.1% compared to December 2020, while services prices went down by 0.9% year-on-year. The prices of fuel, light and water charges saw the biggest increase, rising by 12% per annum, while transportation and communication-related charges fell the most, down by 10.4%.
