WH: Ukraine crisis epilogue up to Putin
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki remarked at a press conference on Tuesday that how the tensions concerning Ukraine will end is “ultimately” up to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Psaki reminded that President Joe Biden’s administration has threatened Moscow with “crippling sanctions” if it invades its neighbor and asserted that Putin is thus “going to decide what path he chooses.” She reaffirmed Washington’s calls on Russia to “back up” its announcement it will withdraw a number of its troops from the border with Ukraine “with actions” and urged a “proven de-escalation.”
Psaki also noted the importance of taking diplomatic negotiations to a “pace of urgency” but did not have information on when Biden and Putin are going to have their next encounter. Moreover, she stressed the need for the crisis to be solved and avoid the further rise in the prices of gasoline in the US.
