Gold, silver jump as Russia-Ukraine conflict starts
Prices of precious metals surged on Thursday after Russia declared the start of a military operation in Ukraine, drawing widespread condemnation from the West and the threat of more severe sanctions than the ones imposed earlier this week. In the aftermath of the events, the Russian ruble dropped to the lowest point recorded ever in comparison to the dollar.
Gold advanced 1.68% to go for $1,941.13 per ounce at 2:37 am ET. Silver rose by 2.10% to $25.09 per ounce at the same time.
Palladium increased by 2.63% to $2,542.60 per ounce at 2:38 am ET. Platinum was 1.34% higher, changing hands for $1,109.36 concurrently.
