UK postpones local elections over coronavirus
The United Kingdom government decided to postpone local and mayoral elections in England until next year as a result of the coronavirus outbreak, Downing Street said on Friday.
The decision came as the elections were scheduled to take place in May, when UK health officials expect the COVID-19 outbreak will reach its peak.
Earlier, UK authorities confirmed that 798 people in the country have contracted the virus, but UK Chief Scientific Officer Sir Patrick Vallance warned that, including unregistered infections, the total number of cases could be as high as 10,000.
