Switzerland offers aid, tightens measures to fight COVID-19
The government of Switzerland revealed on Friday it would set aside 10 billion francs ($10.5 billion) “in immediate assistance” to tackle the economic impact of the coronavirus, in addition to a number of other measures aimed at curbing the epidemic.
All schools in the country will as of next week be shut until at least April 4, while events with more than 100 attendees will be banned. Bars and restaurants’ capacity will be reduced to up to 50 people, the government said. Also, checks on all borders will be reintroduced.
There have been 1150 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in the country and 131 death caused by the pneumonia-like disease. Other neighboring countries have already taken drastic measures to try to contain the spreading.
