Orange CEO seeks delay of Disney+ France launch
Orange SA’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Stephane Richard (pictured) requested on Friday that The Walt Disney Company delay the launch of its streaming service Disney+ in France.
Speaking in an interview with daily Le Figaro, the head of the French telecom operator stated that the measure would reduce the strain of the internet networks due to the coronavirus pandemic, stressing that the launch is “a matter of concern.” Home internet users “must use WiFi” for the same reason, Richard suggested to Orange’s customers.
The Disney+ service is scheduled to begin streaming on March 24 in France. Earlier in the day, the European Commission commended YouTube and Netflix for reducing the streaming quality of their services to help preserve the quick flow of information during the outbreak.
