Over 5,000 nurses in Italy contracted coronavirus
Italy’s association of nursing professionals said in a statement to Breaking The News that over 5,000 nurses have contracted coronavirus during the pandemic, out whom 21 died from the virus.
The rate of daily new cases among health care workers goes up to 250 or more, said Paolo Del Bufalo, the association’s spokesperson. He noted that two infected nurses have committed suicide after finding out they were positive, pressed by the stress of possibly infecting their friends, colleagues and relatives, one of whom died from the virus and another who also committed suicide.
The average age of the deceased is 50-52 years old, the spokesperson added, while the average age of those still working is 46-47 with a reduced risk of falling seriously ill from COVID-19.
