American Airlines to ax up to 30 small destinations – report
American Airlines Group Inc. is readying a plan that would entail the flight cancellation of up to 30 additional medium and small cities in the United States, CNBC reported on Thursday, citing an unnamed executive from the airline.
The plan would help the company keep the workers’ payroll and the flight service at levels required by the agreement the US airlines struck with the government. According to the deal aimed to assist the sector fight the coronavirus crisis, $5.8 billion have been allocated to aid American Airlines out of $25 billion in total granted to multiple US carriers.
According to the report, labor unions and airline executives have urged Congress to adopt an additional $25 billion package to help the companies from the sector maintain their payrolls through March 2021.
